Amazing…I lived in downtown São Paulo just down the street from here at the Hilton for a few months when we first arrived in Brasil in 1975. I had my 7th birthday there, and have many vivid memories still of those days—when we got on a plane for a day, and when we got off everything just seemed like it was cranked up to 11! The “hippie-fair” was what we called the big park nearby that had some sort of flea-market every weekend, where i remember the coolest Brasillian hippie babes and hippie dudes being so captivating that my folks had to pry me away every weekend. I think I woulda kilt it as the new hippie kid in their hippie scene, forget the fact I was only 7. Getting my hippie on would not have been the problem, if somehow I had managed to run away (a block away, that is) from the Hilton and drop out of the squareass 1st grade society. Ha!
A big reason why I would end every trip to the hippie fair with a “peace, out” to my righteous brothers and sisters there in the park was that on the walk home we’d walk past one of my other absolute favorite things in the world—that being “the curvy building”!
Seeing it here on tumblr for the first time in like 39 years (holy shit wtf!) is incredible! I hadn’t thought back to those days in a minute, but with this pic in front of me it’s like all you can eat memories, they just keep coming and coming! I remember I could just stare at that awesome beast of a building for who knows how long, feeling like I’d just explode with laughter and awe! “The curvy building”, I can’t believe it’s still _there_!
And I’m just as surprised that the memories of a seven year old boy are still there, hidden away in the head of this 45 year old man.
Thanks asthetisch! Thanks melisaki! Thanks tumblr! Thanks Mom & Dad, I remember Brasil like it was yesterday. What an experience!
